The practice started out small in 2006 when mostly in hospital patients were consulted. Over the past 15 years the private practice grew significantly and currently we service a wide spectrum of patients in two prominent Pretoria hospitals, Mediclinic Kloof and Cintocare Private Hospital in Menlyn Maine.

Never before has virtual consulting been more popular! When the first wave of Covid hit, the world of online work opened to us. This platform enables us to touch base with patients in far off corners of the world and the international basis of patients started growing.
Currently almost a third of the private practice consists of virtual patients as we connected with the global community. The practice utilises various online platforms to engage with our patients such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp calls. Now you can reach out to your dietician from the comfort of your own home or workplace which positively impacts the environment and reduces time away from the office. Diet support is now literally at your fingertips.
During the initial dietetic consultation the patients tells his/her story – giving the reasons for the visit and what they would like to achieve given the diagnosis/circumstances. The dietician will then gather relevant data:
- Current medications/supplement
- Usual dietary intake/habits
- Anthropometric measurements (weight, height & body circumferences)
- Evaluate available blood tests
The next step is to determine which diet problem should be addressed first as many patients present with more than one dietary concern. Ideally all issues will be addressed but certain issues typically need to be prioritised – a situation where you cannot run before you can walk. Together with the patient the dietary “game plan” is then compiled. Care is taken to explain fully to the patient the “how & why” regarding the planned diet therapy.
Each patient is provided with an individualized diet program. A “one size fits all” approach is a sure fail in this line of business.
Patients are typically followed up every two to three weeks to ensure progress and to timeously tailor the diet according to the patient’s progress. As your body changes, your diet should be tailored accordingly.
